Barn Sale and a Timely Rusty Pulley

Photo courtesy of Country Living magazine.

I was sad I wasn't able to make the trek as planned to meet Joan and Kathy, some blogging friends from the JUNKMARKET site due to my kindergartner coming home with a slight fever on Friday. Bummer. I thought my junking weekend was over.

Late Saturday though, I was able to get away to look at a leaded glass window from Craigslist. I arrived to find a crack in one of the panes so that was a no go, however I came across my very first barn sale on the way home! That may not be a big deal to most of you but it is to me. Unfortunately, until this Saturday, I had only had the pleasure of thrift stores, tag and estate sales but never a real barn! What fun! Where were my funds when I needed them though????

With little money in my pocket I was still able to come away with a few things. Anyone want to guess what this thing is that I bought? The gentlemen working the sale couldn't help me.

It is nice and solid, stands 43" tall and the top spins when you turn the center wooden pole. What can I use it for? The top piece is very warped so I will have to replace or cover it...possibly with aluminum flashing? Please leave your creative ideas on want to do. I'm sure many of you could come up with something.

Loved this pretty little milk glass cake pedestal. The floral design is worn away on top however I really liked the orange and black trim on the pedestal. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? The owner of the home was there and he commented that he always loved that piece. Awww, that tugged at my heartstrings since he was probably thinking of his mother, the person who's estate this was.

Old seashells can be used anywhere. It's always hard to pass them up. Plus, I actually loved the neutral linen-looking box it came in with a vintage label inside.

And a $2 vintage ceramic lamp is always a good deal. It's a pretty classic style which is being reproduced by the thousands today. The brown will fit in just about every room in my home.

Now about that "timely" rusty pulley I mentioned earlier. I opened my December issue of Country Living magazine on Friday to find the perfect holiday wreath for me. Did you see that gorgeous wreath at the beginning of my post? Well I loved the moss, evergreen and eucalyptus that was used, however what truly caught my junker eye was the rusty metal piece used as the hanger. Go back and take a look.

Lo and behold, I find this rusty pulley at the barn sale and asked the worker how much they wanted for it. The man looked it over and said "you can just have it". Woohoo! Score! I guess he wasn't into rusty junk pieces, huh? So now you will all see my beautiful wreath put in place in the coming weeks. I'll be sure to post and show it off a bit!

Don't forget to share your ideas with me! Have a great week and keep on junking!

I Want to Thank the Academy...

The Junkers' Academy that is. Thank you Lanette from Cottage Elements for the Kreativ Blogger award!! I've always enjoyed your blog and your great ideas as a Contributor on the JUNKMARKET Style site. Truly an inspiration for all my habitual junking habits! Check out the cool place she visited on her blog called Funky Junque.

To accept this award I must list six things that make me happy.
1) My family
2) Our health
3) Junking weekends
4) A clean and orderly home
5) A nice soft cozy bed
6) Lost pounds

I want to also thank Gari-Ann from The Undomesticated Wife for the Kreativ Blogger award as well! When I received the award from her about a month ago I didn't know what the heck I was doing with this blog so I never did anything with the award. I'm so sorry it took so long for me to actually post it! Gari-Ann has such a great wit and is truly deserving of this award for her creative budget decor ideas. Fun stuff so make sure you stop by her blog!

The blog award rules for her award:
List 6 things about yourself and
Pass this award on to 6 other bloggers

1) I'm the youngest of five children and we're all girls.

2) I was born on the same day, same year and same hospital as Macy Gray...Macy who you ask?

3) I was robbed at gunpoint while at my job in college. Scary stuff.

4) My favorite rock band is the Foo Fighters. I've been a stalker...er, fan, for years.

5) I am addicted to junk and flea market decorating books. So much that I can't afford my habit any longer. The librarians know me by name now.

I must pass this award along to six deserving Kreativ bloggers and I will happily do so.

Mindy at Primitiques 'N Poetry

Colleen at Fresh Vintage

Bec at Beyond the Picket Fence

Vanessa at V and Co

Thank you again Lani and Gari-Ann! And thank you to the additonal bloggers I send this award to!

Keep on Junking!

I'm on Leaf Duty

Some of you may know my husband is a busy man which makes us a busy-behind-on-chores family. Considering he works over 60 hours a week at his job and he attends college completing a Master's Degree which requires an approximate 25 hours a week this term, I wouldn't even consider asking him to do traditional "guy chores" around the house. The man is exhausted and I appreciate all that he does for our family.

Problem is...look what I'm up against. Mother Nature. And to make matters worse, we live along the golf course, so I get a nice view of a perfectly manicured leafless lawn as a constant reminder of my lack of ability to keep up. I often wonder how much one of those jumbo mower/leaf bagger machines cost that they tease me with every couple days.

We also have a neighbor, a meticulous neighbor, that has a leaf blower strapped to his back every day from September 20th until the first snowflakes fall. Notice the nice line of green grass just behind my kids' playset. Not our property...obviously.

And did you happen to notice what a disaster-of-a-deck we have? Could we fit any more leaves or junk on it? Why yes, I think we could. BUT, my job for this weekend is to get this yard rockin' and rollin' and to clear the deck so we can walk across it without breaking a limb.

Have a great weekend and as always, keep on junking!

Vintage typewriter - Photo display

A Clipper I can be chipper about! I was given this Smith Corona typewriter from a wonderful Craigslister on Election Day. Talk about winning!

It was as easy as changing the font for the text to Batik Regular and printing out a black and white photo of my girls. This will get really fun when I switch out the photos for the different seasons.

As dirty as it was when it was handed to me, I knew it would clean up nicely!

Now if only I can keep my girls' hands off this thing! That will be the challange.

Have a wonderful day and keep on junking!
